Deputy Program Manager, New Mexico Wildfires

Andrea Niehaus has eight years of experience in program management. She possesses exceptional strategic thinking and problem-solving skills and has excelled in roles dedicated to disaster recovery and prevention programs.

Currently serving as Deputy Program Manager for the New Mexico Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management Disaster Recovery, Andrea has a key role in guiding the team committed to wildfire disaster recovery across several counties in New Mexico. Her responsibilities include overseeing the Disaster Case Management Program and orchestrating outreach efforts to support community engagement. She contributes her expertise to improve evaluation metrics and methods for the project. Andrea collaborates with state and voluntary case managers, FEMA staff, Voluntary Agency Liaisons (VALs), and other partners, acting as a determined advocate for residents affected by disasters. 

Before joining Plexos, Andrea was a Senior Program Manager at Coop Consulting, Inc. for the New Mexico Office of Substance Abuse, concentrating on substance abuse prevention. She led various projects under six state-awarded federal grants, applying evidence-based practices throughout New Mexico. Her duties included developing project plans, offering technical assistance, and leading training programs to bolster prevention strategies. She organized quarterly advisory council meetings for the Strategic Prevention Framework for Prescription Drugs grant and the Prevent Prescription Drug/Opioid Overdose grant. Moreover, she managed the New Mexico Prevention System’s bi-annual subrecipient meetings with over 100 attendees and led monthly Quality Improvement Committee meetings for the Prescription Drug/Opioid Overdose grant, aiming to foster networking and community engagement among subrecipient projects.
